XIJIU Restaurant
Full Interior Design
1,800 sqm
The design begins with the reinterpretation of the restaurant’s name, transforming the original festive meaning of “Xijiu” into a more restrained and poetic idea of an enduring banquet. Instead of relying on obvious decorative symbols, the project explores the spiritual depth of Eastern aesthetics: ambiguity, softness, romance, and emptiness.
The space uses diffused lighting, perforated metal panels, woven patterns, golden ginkgo imagery, and blurred spatial boundaries to create an atmosphere that feels both tangible and intangible. The goal is to make the material world lighter, quieter, and more emotional, allowing guests to enter a poetic dining environment rather than a conventional restaurant space.
The project begins with the shift from a festive, lively, and slightly conventional identity to a more elegant and timeless banquet concept. The meaning of “banquet,” “longevity,” and “enduring relationships” becomes the foundation for the restaurant’s spatial narrative.
The design avoids direct cultural symbols and instead expresses Eastern aesthetics through haziness, dematerialization, and emotional atmosphere. Diffused lantern-like lighting, softened boundaries, and layered shadows create a poetic sense of uncertainty, making the space feel less rigid and more immersive.
The woven texture of a banquet mat is abstracted into the core visual motif and applied through perforated panels. Ginkgo leaves and golden tones, inspired by the trees along the street, become the recognizable emotional symbol of the restaurant. Together, these elements form a memorable spatial identity while keeping the atmosphere refined, warm, and romantic.
